LEONARD J. ARRINGTON AWARD
The Leonard J. Arrington Award has been presented since 1999 for distinguished and meritorious service to the field of Mormon history to honor Arrington’s formative influence on the study of Mormon history. This award is made annually to a scholar whose contributions are truly distinguished. Several cogent criteria are considered in assessing eligibility for this award, but no one criterion is determinative. The selection committee will consider the influence of certain individual works by nominees for this award, as well as their cumulative records of meritorious scholarship in general. (This award replaces the Grace Fort Arrington Award for Historical Excellence that was offered from 1981 through 1998, so winners of that award will not be eligible for the present one). Submit nominations with narrative to: Armand L. Mauss, Chair maussal@cox.net
Thomas L. Kane Award
The Thomas L. Kane Award has been presented by MHA since 1998 to recognition a person[s] outside of the Mormon community who has made a significant contribution to Mormon history. The award is presented in the grand tradition of Thomas L. Kane, the Pennsylvania native who, in 1857, supported the Mormons in difficult times. Any member of MHA can make a nomination for the award. Please send nominations along with a detailed explanation of the nominee's contribution(s), by email to: J. Spencer Fluhman, Chair fluhman@byu.edu
